5 Pieces You Need in Your Fall Work Wardrobe

29 September |

With the change in season, always comes the question, “what do I wear?”. It’s almost like we are so used to dressing for warm weather that we forget how to transition into cooler temps. So I thought it would be fun to share the 5 pieces you need in your work wardrobe for fall. These are all pieces that I seem to grab weekly, because they can easily be styled multiple ways!

One of the pillars of the Loverly Grey brand is bringing you all weekly workwear inspiration. When I originally created Loverly Grey, it started as a way to help inspire other working women to build a workwear wardrobe that they love. I shared a bit more about this on the Life with Loverly podcast. If you haven’t already, give it a listen!

WORK WARDROBE ESSENTIALS FOR FALL

Boyfriend Blazer

Blazers are a workwear staple all year long, but they really seem to make their debut in the fall. I’m loving the boyfriend style blazer because you can style it so many ways. Throw it over a dress and add heels or pair it with a pencil skirt and flats. You can also go for a more traditional feel and pair it with dress pants and a blouse for a business professional look. If your office dress code business casual, pair your boyfriend blazer with jeans and a tee shirt. To elevate the look a little add heels and a quilted handbag.

Sweater Dress

A sweater dress is one of those pieces that you can throw on and instantly look put-together. In case you missed it, I shared my favorite $39 sweater dress here. Every fall, I find that my sweater dresses are what I grab for most. They are cozy and chic, and look great with heels or boots. Plus, you can easily layer a ruana, cardigan or coat over the top for added warmth. As you can see, there are so many different styles of sweater dress. I would recommend starting with a more classic silhouette. As you built out your wardrobe over time you can incorporate more trendy styles.

Bodysuit

If there is one item that you purchase this season, let it be a great bodysuit. I purchased mine from Abercrombie back in the spring and have worn it weekly. I was a little hesitant to the bodysuit trend initially, but I love how they stay in place and help to smooth everything out. My favorite two bodysuits are from Abercrombie and Express. They are both double lined and the material is soft and stretchy, making them perfect for all day wear.

Black Pants

You all have heard me rave about these Target pants for months now. I truly believe that are the best bang for your buck when it comes to black dress pants. They are super comfortable, and can be styled a number of ways. Plus, I love that they aren’t a huge investment, so if the cropped flare style fades out quickly, you don’t have to stress about spending a lot of money.

I also really love these classic black straight leg pants from Target as well. If you haven’t tried them yet, go ahead and grab yourself a pair for the fall and winter months. Be sure to size up one, they run small.

Long Line Cardigan

I love a good layering piece in the fall. Whether you are layering your cardigan over a bodysuit or a crisp white button down, the addition of a long line cardigan means you’ll look instantly chic. I typically opt for ones that hit right at the hips or for a more dramatic look, I’ll grab an extra long one that hits at the knee or below. The best part is, you can pair long line cardigans with skirts, dress pants or even dress it down with jeans and booties. This is one of those pieces that can truly go from work to weekend with ease.
